Window
is an operating system that allows the use of graphic to represent a command.
Operating system as earlier discussed in the fundamental program coordinates
the activities of the computer.
Booting: This is the process of turning on your
computer. There are two types of booting namely cold and warm booting.
Cold booting is the process of turning your computer
on right from the power source.
Warm booting is the process of restarting your
computer using the combination keys CTRL + Alt + Del or the restart button.
Shutdown: This is the process of turning your
computer off. A computer is not just short down by just pressing the power
button, it has a procedure of shutting down and the procedure must be followed
to avoid error to the computer.
Window desktop: This is the interface where windows or
programs can be accessed when they are started. And it is made up of various
features which varies from versions of installations such as Icon, folders,
wallpapers, start button, startup menu, task bar etc.
Start button: This is placed at the bottom left of the
desktop, which allows you to start and have access to your computer, other
programs can be accessed directly on the desktop without using start button.
Wallpaper: This is the background on the desktop. A
background is said to be a file created from the web or as bitmap file.
Folder: This is just the location where files and other folders
are being stored. They were known as directories in the early operating system.
Icons: These are the symbolic representation of programs, folders,
and files that you have on the desktop for easy access.
Some of the commands on the startup menu
My computer: This is a command from the startup menu
and at times placed on the desktop which contains all the storage devices of
the computer system.
Control panel: This is the command that contains all
the window options used in various areas of the computer system.
My Document: This command enable the computer user
easily locate his/her files or folders in the computer.
Help and Support: This command you to find learn more
about what you don’t know concerning the computer.
Search or Find: This is the command used in finding or
searching for a missing or a misplaced file or folder.
All Programs: This enables you to access a particular
program that you want to work with in the computer.
Run: This guides you for installation and also in running a
program on the computer system.
Recycle bin: This is used in storing deleted items.
How to shutdown computer
Ø Close
all programs
Ø Click
on start button

on shutdown, in the shutdown dialog box

How to use find command
Ø Click
on the start button

to find or click on search
Ø Choose

How to create a folder
Ø Put
the folder that is containing the one to be created in use

How to view the content of a folder
Ø Right
- click once on the folder you want to view its content

How to copy or cut a file to a folder

the folder or file by clicking on it once

on cut or copy from the edit menu or right click on the file or folder and

How to rename a folder
